BARQĀN

The talisman of Barqān in Kitāb al-Bulhān and Maṭāliʻ as-Saʻāda respectively.

Barqān (برقان), “Two Lightning Strikes”, is one of the Seven Jinn Kings. Al-Būnī describes him as the jinnī of the planet Mercury and under the angel Mīkāʾīl, and he is associated with brass and Wednesday. Al-Būnī also says he is served by the ʿifrīt Wahdelbāj. In the illustration of his talisman in Kitāb al-Bulhān and Maṭāliʻ as-Saʻāda he is depicted as a dark horned jinnī speaking to jinn followers. The talisman titles call him al-Malik al-ʾAswad, “The Black King”. He was also called Abū l-ʿAjāʾib, “Father of Wonders” and said to have a daughter named Kaḥlah, “Kohl-Black”.
